Lyons Sandstone - Entrance Stone

The large, flat flagstones are the 1st choice of discriminating landscapers and contractors.

During the Permian Period, about 260 million years ago, Colorado was an inland sea.

The climate on the land was that of a desert, with vast areas of sand dunes being blown about by the winds. Time and pressure turned this sand to very hard stone.

The pink color is caused by traces of iron oxide between the small grains of sand. Many of the buildings on the University of Colorado campus are built of Lyons Sandstone.
